Digital Liturgy - August 9th

Welcome

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,

Heaven and earth are full of his glory.

Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father
And to the Son
And to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning,
Is now and ever shall be,
World without end! Amen, amen.

Collect for Purity

Almighty God, to You all hearts are open, all desires known, and from You no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love You, and worthily magnify Your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Summary of the Law

Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ says:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.

Lord, have mercy on us

Christ, have mercy on us

Lord, have mercy on us

Prayer of the Day

Lord, we cannot even exist without You, therefore give freely to us the Spirit to always think and do what is right, and in this way enable us to live according to Your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Prayers of the People

O Lord, reveal Your mercy to us
And give us Your salvation.

O Lord, guide all who govern us;
And lead us in the way of justice and truth.

Clothe our pastor and all Your ministers with righteousness;
And let Your people sing with joy.

O Lord, rescue Your people from trouble and persecution
And bless Your inheritance.

Give peace in our time, O Lord;
And defend us by Your mighty power.

Confuse and bring to nothing the plans of evil
And protect Your children from all harm

Do not let the needy or those who suffer, O Lord, be forgotten;
Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.

We bless You for the witness of your servants who have gone before us
Let us be found faithful like them

Create in us clean hearts, O God;
And do not take your Holy Spirit from us.

Children’s Blessing

Almighty God, You have blessed our congregation with the joy and care of children. Bless them with Your grace, and give us courage, patience, and wisdom as we bring them up in the faith, that they might never know a day apart from You, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Welcoming Time

The peace of the Lord be with you!

And also with you!

Greet one another with grace and peace!

The Ministry of the Word

Isaiah 40 A voice says, “Call out.” Then he answered, “What shall I call out?” All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the LORD blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.

This is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

James 1 Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

This is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Matthew 6 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

This is the gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Christ!

Creed

Church of God, what do you believe?

We believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offering

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion,

because God loves a cheerful giver!

Confession

Lord God,
we have sinned against you;
we have done evil in your sight.
We are sorry and repent.
Have mercy on us according to your love.
Wash away our wrongdoing and cleanse us from our sin.
Renew a right spirit in us
and restore us to the joy of your salvation,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

May the God of all healing and forgiveness
draw us to himself,
and cleanse us from all our sins
that we may behold the glory of his Son,
the Word made flesh,
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

In this world you will have trouble, so cheer up.

I have overcome the world

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins

And cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Communion

The Lord be with you

And also with you

Lift up your hearts

We lift them up to the Lord

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God

We rejoice in him as is right and required

Scripture teaches us always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

Exhortation

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might
Heaven and earth are filled with your glory
Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord
Hosanna in the highest!

Let’s pray together:

We do not presume to come to this your table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. We are not worthy even to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may forever dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
Praise Him!
